Best Winter Gear for Toddlers

Winter is upon us!

And that means it’s time to gear up our kids for our favorite winter activities.

Last winter, I finally started cross country skiing with my 2 year old. As you can probably imagine, I ended up posting a lot of pictures/reels of all the neat places we skied. As winter sneaks up again, I have had people reach out asking what my favorite gear is.

So I will tell you what I consider to be the best winter gear for toddlers.

BUT FIRST!

I feel like I should preface this with where I get my winter gear for toddlers. I get it from our second hand, consignment outdoor gear shop. I don’t like spending a ton of money on new things for kids. The only thing I have bought new is the ski kit for my Burley trailer.

Another thing you should know is that in the winter, it is not unusual for it to not get above freezing here. So you know my gear suggestions are top notch.

Winter gear for toddlers checklist:

Snow bibs: I have a similar style to these ones. I got mine from a consignment gear shop where I live, which I’d suggest. I’m all about buying used, when possible.

Onsie: Underneath my sons snow suit, I put fleece jammies. These kept him toasty warm!

Wool socks: My son loves these socks. He wears them as much as possible. Again, they kept his little feet toasty all through the winter.

Homemade buff: I made an amazing little fleece buff for my son that goes up over his chin. He won’t go in the cold without it! I’d be willing to make you one if you are interested 🙂

Gloves: I use this pair from Murdoch’s a ranching goods store in Montana. Again, they keep my kids hands so warm that he sometimes takes them off.

Sorel boots: Another favorite of the toddler. He even rides his strider bike through the snow in them.

Columbia jacket: This is very similar to what I have minus the snow pants. It is another item I got from the second hand store in my town.

Knit Hat: We don’t have a specific brand we like because we have SOOO many different brands of hats HOWEVER, I like ones that have some sort of connector under the chin. So something like this

Burley Bike Trailer that is Ski Kit compatible: My trailer was not actually intended to be compatible with a ski kit but I made it that way. I bought the parts and had a friend with the right tools jimmy rig it. And now it is compatible! And this is the exact kit that I use.
